What to Do with a Day Off the Skis or Snowboard
Posted On: 02/04/2019Looking for adventures in the mountains? While most visitors to Colorado’s ski resorts put on snowboard or skis as the default, here are some vacation ideas to consider, to the destination that Epic Mountain Express brings you for a winter getaway!
A slow and easy option for those seeking a scenic tour is the Winter Wine Excursion at Beaver Creek. A guided snowshoeing adventure is as easy as walking with no experience required. Get off the slopes in into the pine trees, allowing you to fully embrace the beauty and solitude of the area. And, in true Beaver Creek fashion, a culinary experience at the Osprey’s Fireside Grill will follow, with wine, cheese and charcuterie.
Are you looking for a bit of exhilarating speed? Look no further than the mountain coasters that seem to be popping up like mushrooms in the forests. The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster in Snowmass, the Forest FlyerCoaster in Vail, Copper Mountain’s Rocky Mountain Coaster, and Breckenridge’s Gold Runner coaster. Available to enjoy both day and night, you’ll wind your way through through the forest, zooming through trees at speeds of up to 28 mph! Dress appropriately!
Fat biking or snowbiking is becoming the hottest new snow sport, literally. It’s a great way to get a workout outdoors, and you’ll quickly warm up. Most areas have bike rentals, including the Gold Run Nordic Center in Breckenridge and Vail Nordic Club in East Vail. Different levels of trails are available. Be prepared to feel a bit ridiculous and maybe fall off your bike, but with slower speeds and snowy ground beneath you, just keep pedaling, and enjoy the views and fresh air from a different perspective.
Keystone Resort offers the most iconic way to take in the winter wonderland. Dash through the snow on a horse-drawn sleigh with a scenic sleigh ride that’s perfect for all ages. If you are wanting to make more of the adventure, go for the full Wild West experience with the sleigh ride dinner. Remember, the night sky is amazingly beautiful and stars shine more brightly as resorts’ are far from cities.
The choose your own adventure of mountain fun is tubing at Copper Mountain and will keep you laughing the entire time! You choose your downhill style - shoot straight down the hill, spin on banked curves or hold tightly onto your friends’ tubes for a more mellow ride.
Even if you aren’t skiing or snowboarding, you can still take in all the views of Vail on a Scenic Gondola Ride. Take the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead Village and be prepared to have your breath taken away by the mountain vistas. Stop for lunch or warm beverage at Bistro Fourteen. Once atop Eagle’s Nest, you might be inspired to try other activities at Adventure Ridge, like ski biking or tubing.
No matter how you choose to explore the mountains, book your transportation to and from the mountains with Epic Mountain Express now so you can start exploring!
